Hi I am totally new to whole network analysis and my company has purchased sniffer portable 4.8. Its installed on my laptop and i just want to see whats going through the whole network - is it just a simple case of unbinding my ip address and then conecting to the network.

What type of network are you on Cisco, Nortel ect. You do not need to unbind your IP stack in order to use Sniffer; however you do need to have your NIC card listed as the interface with the software. That all happens when you start the program. If you are in a switched network you have to configure the port you are using in order to see traffic you wish to look at. (ie) Span or Monitor ports. Or if you are in a shared network (Ethernet hub) just plug in and go.
