BUG - Ack Too Long (%1!u!ms) - March 14, 2002

I find it annoying seeing those Ack Too Long messages with all that gibberish at the end. To fix it, go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Network Associates, Inc.\Sniffer Pro\4.5\Expert\Local\Alarms\Alarm - 14008 and clean up the Description key.

Can you provide a tracefile?

Thanks, Chris

No need to send a trace file. Just sniff any conenction that traverses a wan or slow link... You'll see it in the Symptoms->Connections.

Do you see the same problem with 4.7?

Thanks, Chris

I don't know.

I'm going to be installing 4.7 in the next few days and always review my bug list to see which ones still apply and which new ones pop up.

Yup 4.7 decodes it the same way and GVRP says 'frame too short'
'Making things work better; bit by bit.'

fortunat,

Please send me a tracefile that exhibit these symptoms and I'll take a look at it.

Chris

Sure cpete, pass on your email address.. 'Making things work better; bit by bit.'

fortunat,

Send to me at dcpete@directvinternet.com

Thanks, Chris

It's on its way.. 'Making things work better; bit by bit.'

fortunat,

Thanks, got the tracefile. I have confirmed the decode bug of GPRS. It is being worked on now and hopefully will be available in the next Service Pack for 4.7. I could not reproduce the "Ack Too Long (%1!u!ms)" error with this tracefile. I presume that is because you didn't include any ack frames in the tracefile. I do not have easy access to slow WAN connections, so a tracefile would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Chris

The Ack too Long... Is not present in 4.7. So disregard it.

Regards, 'Making things work better; bit by bit.'

The GPRS problem is fixed. Hopefully it will make it into a future patch for 4.7. Otherwise it will be in the next release of Sniffer.

Chris

Thnaks for the update 'Making things work better; bit by bit.'

Fortunat, from prior messages in this thread, it seems that you have access to GPRS traffic? If so, I'm having a tough time getting traces taken at the Gb interface. Any chance that you could provide a tracefile?

Scott

Sure Scott, email me tony@thetechfirm.com and I'll fire you the trace GVRP 'Making things work better; bit by bit.'
