Anyone know if there are known bugs where inserting a sniffer into the network could cause some sort spanning tree loop ? What are the known bugs with version 4.1 ?

Can you clarify? You use the word "inserting" - are you using the Sniffer in some sort of in-line mode or connecting with an in-line tap ort is it just connected to a SPAN/mirror port?

Best place to find out about the major bugs in v4.1 is to read the release notes for v4.2 - it describes what was corrected from v4.1 - if you don't have a copy just email me and I can send you a copy.

By the way.... most people have found v4.2 to be more stable than v4.1

Distributed 4.1 was know for a lot of isseus (or bugs, how you will call it). There were several patches released for 4.1. Best if indead to upgrade to 4.2 wich is much more stable.
Also 4.3 will be released very soon.
