I'm running Red Hat 7.1 and use up2date and have the latest updates for that version. I want to upgrade to 7.2 so I spent the best six hours of my life downloading the iso files. I will be using the hard drive install method so I created an install boot disk. The disk boots fine and asks me for the language and file location. When ANACONDA starts, I get a slew of PYTHON and traceback errors . Then the system halts. What I need is for everybody to give up their Thanksgiving weekend and help me with this problem.) Red Hat support just refers me to Errata, which is already up to date, or Bugzilla which is no help at all. Does anybody know of a way to 'force' anaconda to ingnore errors?

Hi,

I remember problems with those snakes trying to upgrade a 6.0 installation - anaconda has had a history of bugs unfortunately. There is an update available from the original 7.2 but the error it fixes relates to 3ware hardware - its probably not relevant.

Anyway, for the hard drive install did you keep the download as an iso file and place it on an existing ext2 or fat partition ? (

Without more info, I can only suggest trying a text-mode upgrade or burning the iso to a CD and trying that.

What python error messages do you get ? Did you check the virtual install consoles (Control-Alt-F1/F2/F3) for info ?

One problem with 7.1 that may persist in 7.2 was dma. You could try passing the parameter 'ide=nodma' when its at the boot: stage - i.e. boot: linux ide=nodma . I'm not sure if you can do that because 7.2 uses the GRUB bootloader by default instead of lilo so passing parameters maybe a bit different. I've haven't tried to go to 7.2 yet myself.

Anyway, hope this helps - if not can u give a bit more error info...

Regards

I get a list of errors so I tried to pick them off one at a time. The last one on the list is an AttributeError in /var/lib/anaconda1.5/snack.py. It says that ButtonChoiceWindow is missing 'height' attribute on line 547 so I edited it and put in an arbitrary number to see if anything changes and I got the same error. I also tried using a 7.1 boot.img but it doesn't recognize the iso files and prompts for another location. The iso files are on an ext2 partition on hda5 because I was just going to do an upgrade. It looks like I might have to break down and buy a CD writer after all. By the way, I apologize for posting this in the wrong forum. Lest I incense the purests amongst us, this should have gone in the Linux (server) Forum. Sorry.
