I'm having an issue that I see often when I google it. I can e-mail a report within the company, but fail when attempting to e-mail outside the company with this error message:

"SMTP_E_MAILBOX_UNAVAILABLE_2(550)".

The e-mail addresses are verified as legitimate e-mails, but none of the fixes I've seen in various forums have an answer that works.

I'd appreciate any help I can get!

Hi,

The 550 error code is the key here I think.
It's returned by your mail server which is not allowing relaying externally.
Check your mail server admin about this.
And if you're the admin then check your mail server settings for relaying options/perms.

What mail server you using?

You'll get a similar message if you use Outlook and don't have relay perms. It's an error message returned by your mail server.


Are you connecting to your mail server with valid credentials?

I just did a Google search for 'crystal enterprise e-mail server 550 error' and found several results and one being...



**Warning**
Be careful not to open relay for external sources. Your server will end up getting used to send out spam.

I took this back to the group in our company that handles this. They had a change in the SMTP server that had not been communicated to me. I had been assuming that the issue was that the SMTP needed to know what user ID was attempting to send the mail, but I was wrong!

When I changed the server to the new server name, it resolved the issue.
