I'm looking for opinions on what software is the most reliable and solid to Virus Scan SMTP traffic. I am currently using Lotus Notes and have Group Shield however it tends to cause many problems with the system. It bottlenecks very often and also crashes the Domino Server completely. Lotus developers have not been able to provide a solution so I am looking for something to scan all SMTP traffic from either Outside my firewall acting as a gateway or perhaps a server on the inside as a gateway for SMTP traffic. Any comments/opinions are greatly appreciated!

I found that with VirusScan and GroupShield that if the email/system scan is set to scan .dll files it can cause HAVOC with Lotus(Notes). I found that if I disabled scanning of .dll files with regard to Lotus it worked fine...and I have got no virus's yet!!!! (touch wood!) :-D Jay~

I use Norton System Centre for my AV to Exchange. Works fine.

A cheat is to outsource your virus checking to starlabs. They will check for viruses before sending the email to you. You just point your MX record at them and they check and pass it on. But for large user bases it gets expensive.
