smtp time stamp on emailed voicemail

hi there,

Does the mail time and date on the on the email client reference the server or the time the client downloaded the mail?

I would assume it's the time and date that the mail was received on the server and uses the server's time and date.

Have a problem where the mail shows 6 hours less than when the mail was sent. So if the mail was sent at 12 noon, the time stamp shows like 6 am.

 
That is your e-mail server. The time stamp is generated at the time the message has completed it's download.
 
do you mean dowload from the server to the mail client?
