SMTP Service Vanishes after reboot

SMTP services are up and running after install, running ok on 2003 server. After reboot it vanishes from the Service mmc but the registry keys remain the same and are there.

Any suggestions?

Thought it was Microsoft update doing the dirty deed but it vanishes after first reboot after install.

Thanks in advanced.
