Recently on our only Exchange 2000 server a number of services are stopping on a regular basis. The most apparent service in question is the SMTP service. At least once a week (twice in the last two days) the service has just stopped. There are no errors in Event viewer and the service starts up just fine when we restart it. These services (others in question are IMAP4, POP3, and are all set to start automatically and do not require a reboot to get them running again.

Obviously this becomes quite an annoyance very quickly. Has anyone seen anything like this in the past. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

have you tried runnign setup /disasterrecovery to see if that fixes the problem? if you haven't, and you do this, make sure you haev a good backup....

What other services have been stopping? Odds are that one service is stopping for a reason, and the other services are dependent on the one and thus stopping as well.

What if you try reinstalling the latest OS Service Pack..

We saw a similar problem. The smtp service was terminating intermittingly with no errors. Turns out it was the order in which we installed the newest version of Trend ScanMail for Exchange and Windows 2000 SP4.
Unless you install the SP before Trend we found that the problem existed. If you are running Trend than uninstall it and apply Windows 2000 SP4, than re-install Trend. Cleared it up for us.

The post sp3 E2K rollup fixes a lot of that.
