Dear All :
I have an exchange server inside my network , and I am trying to create a SMTP Relay outside , so that all the SMTP Traffic will pass through this new server ,.,
Can you advise me with a good SMTP-Relay Software to use it on the outside REDHAT Linux Machine .. so that the network appears like the following :

Internet -- SMTP-Relay Srv -- Firewall -- Internal Email Srv

Postfix works great and comes with most Linux distributions. Sendmail comes with them also, but is a pain to set up.

Unless your relay server will be doing something useful, like virus or spam protection, I wouldn't bother introducing another potential point of failure in the chain.

yes , I need virus , and spam protection ..

i worked with sendmail, postfix and qmail. i liked the sendmail configuration most, but i think qmail is very stable and secure.

Don't you want: ? ;-)

I do hear good things about Qmail. My experience is with Postfix and Sendmail, and I'd choose Postfix. Check with the AV vendors for Linux-based products. Trend Micro has one. I've used Spamassassin on a Linux gateway as well with good results.

You'll reduce the load on your Exchange server significantly if you periodically export a list of valid users to the Linux gateway and then reject mail to unknown users. Then your AV and spam system don't have to scan all the spam sent to random addresses. I had a process run every 2 hours to do this.
