SMTP Relay server in the DMZ

I want to set up a stand alone Windows 2003 SMTP Gateway in the DMZ for all the mail will have to go through that Gateway. I also want remote users to be able to use Pop3 and IMAP through the SMTP server. Is that possible?

What about the security setting on the SMTP server? Do I turn on the anonymous access plus basic and Windows authentication? or just the anoymous only?

If the server is a stand aloen server, how can POP3 and IMAP users authenticate to the domain?

You don't put Exchange 2003 in the DMZ. Period.

I'm not putting the Exchange server on the DMZ. I want to put a stand alone W2K3 SMTP server to use as a gatway on the DMZ. The Exchange willo be on the LAN behind the firewall.
