We are using a Groupwise 6 server POP3 and SMTP services enabled. Spammers are using our server to relay they're creating a backlog of 12,000 messages a night. When we turn the Prevent SMTP relay switch on and input Allow exceptions in for our users we are still unable to send out messages VIA SMTP. Outlook returns the error 550 relaying denied.
Is it possible to have relaying off and have allow exceptions for our users? And how would we setup the exceptions?

Thanks,

Bryan Brooks

Hi,

Is GroupWise patched to at least SP1? This patch has a fixes for open relays.

I'm going to apply SP2 tonight. Will it allow the Allow Exceptions to work properly?

Get the SP2 in there, then:

IN C1, goto Access Control, SMTP Relay.
turn off all relaying,
then add the hosts you want to auth in the
SYS:\ETC\HOSTS file.
Like:
192.168.0.1 GW6_SERVER EMAIL

Then put 'EMAIL' in the C1 list of allowed relay agent.

For outlook, 'just turn on outgoing mailserver needs auth'
I stopped all my users from using OE,
We are a pure GWClient/Webaccess site now.
Guess what? no spam or Windows address book viruses!
