Since installing SP2 to Win 2K Professional I have been having problems with sending emails.

No problem downloading mail. Regardless of format (HTML or Plain Text) or attachments, only small emails (about two lines or less) are sent out.

The problem exists with Outlook XP, OE 5.5 and OE 6 clients so I suspect the problem is lower down in the protocol stack.

I was advised to uninstall SP2 but am reluctant to do this if I can avoid it (I suppose I should use Linux).

Has anyone come across a similar problem or have any suggestions. Many thanks in advance.

I have so far not witnessed any issues with SP2 and Windows 2000 SMTP. Now one thing you could do is ping your smtp server and the # it comes back with, put it in your smtp settings. With this there is no DNS issues. Your problem could be the smtp server itself. James Collins

Thanks James for your reply.
I omitted to mention that I had already used the IP address of the SMTP server and the same problem occurred.
The ISP I am using is the biggest telco in Australia and their helpdesk was the one that suggested I uninstall SP2 because to quote " it is a Microsoft Issue, a recognized problem with SP2".
Though I haven't been able to find any info about it yet.
Regards.

I have never herd of that issue to be honest. True that no matter how many service packs you add to a Windows system there still may be some issues. As for this one. I have delt with over a dozen ISP's with Win2K machines here in the USA and never seen the issue you are describing. That does not mean there is not one. It could be a combonation of your ISP and Win2K SP2 they do not want to admit about (ISP's here will always blame your OS before they even look at their servers) James Collins
