Hi,
I've installed Exchange 2003 on a Windows Server 2003. After installation, I realised that I had some problems with the Smtp service that I didn't have on my other Exchange 2003 service - it was disabled by default.
After enabling it and starting it, everything was fine until I rebooted my machine, after that, every single incoming mail was bouncing back to the sender, giving 5.0.0 as error message.
This continues until I stop and restart the Smtp-service (in both Exchange Manager and the Service list). Anyone got a clue to what the problem is? It doesn't feel very good to have to stop and start the service after every reboot.

Thanks!

/Martin

Hi !

The SMTP server is probably "dead". Does any of the logs give any clue as to what is going wrong ?

One way (dirty one - so have a backup) is to remove the SMTP part of the windows server and the re-install it. BE VERY CARFULL, AND USE THIS AS A LAST RESORT ONLY! I DO NOT KNOW IF THE EXCHANGE SERVER WILL SURVIVE THIS KIND OF TREATMENT.

Why make things difficult, when it is possible to make them cryptic and totally illogic, with just a little more effort.
