I'm installing a SBS 2003 server for a company that currently uses an external exchange server. They currently have Outlook 2003 setup on their laptops to use SMTP/POP3 to send/receive email to/from their outsourced exchange server and they store all their email on their local HD in a .pst file. Once their local Exchange server is up and I change the MX records, what's the best way to configure Outlook so that they can use their new local server but still have access to their old messages?

Thanks!

Ensure all the old email is saved to pst files, the create a new profile to the new server, once connected to the new server, add each users pst file back into to their new profile, then have them drag and drop the mail from the pst back into their mailbox. (I'd then drop the pst files for good, but just's just me)

Job done.

Hope this helps

Andy

I dissagree about dropping the .pst files.

You're running SBS and eventually the Exchange DB will fill up. You'll want to have the users used to using .pst files as well as the Exchange DB so that they are not too resistent to having email archived to .pst files when needed.

Excellent advice! Thanks!
BTW, I directed all Exchange data and logs to the E: drive which is my data partition of ~130GB so I should be ok for a while considering there are only 15 users. :)

The size of the disk in nice, but Exchange will only allow 16GB of mail unless you're running Enterprise.

Even so, with 15 users you should have a while before your store reaches that size.
