SMTP Outbound queue

On my server which Im not using any connectors I running into something simalar! Some of my queues are working just fine. Others the mail will sit there in the queue. So I checked the properties for the queue of the domain having problems and it tells me "The remote server did not respond to a connection attempt"
So I drop to a command prompt and do the nslookup -q=mx domain.com get the mx record, then telnet mail.domain.com 25
and it works just fine. Don't understand it!
