When using SMTP for VM=Email, it doesnt matter what account your logged on with or what account authenticates your VM Pro service etc....does it? As long as the "Check" option in VMPro settings in control panel goes thru it should work right?

Well, the SMTP Server must be able to relay e-mail. If the server is well setup it doesnt so there must be some kind of verification setup in order to avoid spam.
Most people just allow relaying of email, then a account is not necessery.
It is easy to test with a telnet session, do a google search for "telnet smtp" and you will find how to di this.

you need to set the originating email address for the VM msgs
this is done from control pannel.

if the email address is invalid the test option will still pass (this just makes sure that there is a mail server to talk to)
