SMTP mail not sending

Hello all... I need help... Exchange 5.5 sp4 single site IMC installed. Mail comes in from the outside but when a users sends mail to an outside using the G.A.L. it disappears into space... Doesn't go into the MTA queues and never hits the IMC... Please help...

Only when using the GAL, ie sending to a Custom Recipient?

It works OK if they type an address like fred@somewhere.com?

If so I would say a problem with the Custom Recipients themselves. Look at properties and make sure they have smtp addresses, mine have it listed as the first one.
