Our website provider has setup a form on our website. When a user enters their details it sends an email to two accounts at our primary domain and to the webhost.

The emails addressed our domain do not get delivered, but they do to the webhost. FYI our webhost loves MACs and I don't know if this could have any affect on it?

We use Exchange server 2003 and I have turned on full logging have examined the SMTP logs but cannot see any attempt or error reports for these emails trying to be delivered (I searched on the IP address and domain name in email below). I also searched the firewall logs and cannot see the IP or domain name as trying to connect on port 25.

I tried sending the form 11 times yesterday, and 8 of those times did receive an SMTP error message on the Exchange server which might be related. But it has a different IP address each time and HELO message each time. Here is an extract of one: Could this be related??

This is an SMTP protocol log for virtual server ID 1, connection #577. The client at "89.214.207.173" sent a "helo" command, and the SMTP server responded with "501 5.5.4 Invalid Address ". The full command sent was "helo Fábio". This will probably cause the connection to fail.

I am at a loss to understand why this email is not being received. Do you think this:

- could this be a problem with our website provide idnet.com?
- could this be a grey list/blakc list issue for our domain
- is our reverse DNS correct and MX record setup for correct authentication? When I did a check using I get a timeout error.

Any suggestions or pointers would be really appreciated.

FYI - the header of the email sent to to the web provider succesfully is as follows (I have removed domain names and replaced with dummies):

Without your real domain name I can't lookup to see if you have an SPF record. If so you need to make sure that all the IPs from your web server are added to the list of allowed senders.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark
