I have a Windows Server 2003 R2 server which is running Legato Networker and uses smtp mail to send me the backup notifications and in the last week this has stopped working.

When I run the syntax from the command line its failing with the following error message:-

Connection to SMTP host failed: software caused connection abort

This has been working fine for about 6 years with no issues what so ever, can someone tell me how I can resolve this issue?

Yup this is what is causing the problem. When i try the following it fails:-

telnet <server_name> 25

So I have asked the firewall guys to open the port asap!

If the server running Legato is internal, as is the SMTP server, then the traffic isn't likely going through a firewall.
It would be something else.
