I am trying to require SMTP to require a password. I have tried to set this in both Netscape Console 4.1 and using configutil. In both cases, the parameter is rejected because the server is in Local Cache Mode. I can't find any reference to this on Sun's site. Using Messaging Server 4.15 on a Sun box.

Are you talking about requiring SMTP AUTH in order to send? If so, look through the manuals for AUTH. I found that I had to set it a little differently than it appeared in the console.

I just thought of this -- in the manuals, it's basically under the anti-relay configuration section. I have my NMS 4.15 server set up to allow relay from specific IPs, and anyone who successfully AUTHenticates, along with anyone who's sending to a local domain. If I understand your question right, you'd probably want to eliminate the IP checks. That way, it'd require AUTH for anyone to send.

Hope this helps.
