Hi,

I have installed vmpro for the first time today. Leaving messages etc is okay. The user is configured to forward it to an email address. It's failing to go to the smtp server. I've tried enabling smtp logging however as per the following tip from Avaya, details below. However I don't see an smtp log anywhere. Anyone any ideas please?

SMTP Logging with Voicemail Pro & SMTP Error Codes
This document explains how to enable SMTP logging in Voicemail Pro in order to troubleshoot SMTP problems.
Important:
To enable SMTP Logging you have to modify the Windows registry.
It is advisable to back up the registry before you modify it.
Make sure that you know how to restore the registry if a problem occurs.
Details on how to back up, edit and restore the registry can be found on the Microsoft Website
To enable SMTP logging, follow these steps to create a new registry key:
1. Stop the Voicemail Pro Service
2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
4. Expand SOFTWARE.
5. Expand Network Alchemy.
6. Expand Voicemail.
7. Click Directories
8. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click String Value.
9. Type SMTPLogging, and then press ENTER.
10. Right-click the SMTPLogging STRING Value, and then click Modify.
11. Type 1, and then click OK.
12. Start the Voicemail Pro Service
<End>

Also is there a method to ping, nslookup, tracert etc from the IP Office itself (not the management / admin PC)?

Thanks in advance.

regards
paul

just use Monitor and set the PC Voicemail options, or debug view. this will show you something like "abc.wav 10K sent" and repeat until the file has relayed off the SMTP Server.

What are your relaying the messages off? does the VM server have permissions to relay off it?

Apologies, do you mean Sysmonitor? The only thing I can see for Sysmonitor is Filters->Trace Options->Routing->voice, where I can enable under voice - messages.
e.g. Received AVRIP etc
Which I enabled, however I don't see any reference to .wav file attempt or anything that looks like an smtp attempt.

I'm using our old email server, so I'm not it should accept smtp from any IP set (unlike our current exchange server). If I understand how to do this, I'll be able to troubleshoot it further. Thanks.

Do you have the SMTP settings configured on the ipo too ?

thanks everyone. I found a debug software in the docs which should help. I should be okay now on going forward.

@hsm, I know but I always do the ipo too.
And when it works on the ipo then the vm server should work too.

You can also change VMPro service.

Stop the "Voicemail Pro Service" goto the "Log On" tab and tick "Allow Service to interact with Desktop"
Now start the "Voicemail Pro Service" again, now ip will pop-up a new window, click RUN and see....:)

PS. It also works for Win7 users but you screen resolution will change.

Bas, just one question, in 2008 server the interact with desktop does not seem to work the way it did on 2003. You dont see the VMPro application, but it pops up every now and then saying a background task requires attention.

How do you get it to be visible all the time?

Thanks in advance

Kevin

You could try to turn off the service "Interactive Services Detection" disabling won't work because it will start as soon as you restart the voicemail pro service. Just tried in Win7 but that does no show the Log screen as it used to do like WinXP or Win2k3.

Use debug view instead.

Thanks. The vm pro doc says to use debug.
