The server hosting exchange server (2003) lies behind a firewall with a fixed public IP address (on the WAN side of the firewall). Ports 25 (SMTP) and 110 (POP3) have been opened at the firewall.
In the DNS manager (at Freeparking) for the domain I have created an A record and called it mail10.f-f.co.uk (default mail servers are mail.ff.co.uk and mail2.ff.co.uk) with an IP address = the fixed public IP address. I have then created an MX record (priority code 0) pointing to this A record.
Something is wrong as I can't get mail to be delivered to my exchange server's mailbox. Do I need a DNS record/s on the server DNS side?

You need DNS locally - it is a prerequisite of Exchange so it will be there.

Telnet to your Exchange server from inside and see if you can send email direct - that eliminates all other issues.

Close POP3 to the Internet - why do you need people to pick up email from outside using Exchange over POP? Bad idea.
