My user is in a hotel in USA trying to send e-mails but he has error connecting to the smpt server.

The e-mail server is in Brazil and smtp works normaly in Brasil, even outside network.

The error is in outlook 2003 and express.

What could be the cause?

thanks,
Renato.

if you are using port 25 try changing to port 80

In the end I had to contract the smtp2go service to have my smtp working in case ISPs that blocks it.

thanks,
Renato.

Hey Renato,

Another thing to note for the future would be to have an alternate SMTP port setup in your mail server configuration. At work we have port 25 and 50 setup as SMTP ports in case ISPs, etc. are blocking the use of 25. I've seen this mainly with residential ISPs, but hotels and public places may also fall into this. By having the alternate up, the user that is traveling can just adjust their Outgoing SMTP settings to use the other port that shouldn't be blocked by the ISP he/she is using.

If you're using Exchange, setup RPC over HTTPS (now known as "Outlook Anywhere"), and be done with it. No extra ports needed.
