SMTP Connector Exchange 2003

We have recently installed a semi-functional domain upgraded from a workgroup. The domain name is mycompany.local. I went into exchange and installed a pop3 connector to mycompany.com. The mail is making it to the exchange server, however the clients are not able to receive mail from exchange. Please help.
