I'm running Exchange 2000 on Windows 2000 server. Normally I receive email from the Internet with no problems, except from a few ISPs. When the problem ISPs connect to send email to my location. They connect for 4 seconds and are then disconnected without getting the SMTP banner.

1. Are you running a firewall? If so, check your firewall logs to make sure it's not blocking anything from the problem ISPs.

2. Check to make sure you haven't landed on any blacklists due to open relay or anything. There are a lot of lists that don't get used that much so don't freak out if you see that your entire ISP has landed on a list or two.

3. Sounds like you may have already done this (I'm assuming that's what you mean by SMTP banner), but have somebody from that ISP see if they can telnet to your server on port 25 and get a response from HELO host.domain.com
