I am running NT 4.0 sp6 and IIS. We have SMTP installed and running but not DNS. We have installed Exchange 5.5 sp3 and are able to send and receive mail fine.

The problem is we are using APC POWER CHUTE PLUS 5.2 power management software and want to send SMTP mail on certain events. We were able to set it up using and outside mail account (from our ISP) and got it working. We try to change it to use our internal SMTP server and a local account but get nothing.

In trying to debug it we have been able to telnet to it using the I/P address of the SMTP server and PORT 25 and have had succesful connection. So the SMTP seems to be setup correctly. However if we try to connect to it using TELNET and the name of the domain.com or even server.domain.com and cannot make a connection. So we think this may be the problem. But how to resolve it is still at issue.

If anyone has any Ideas it would be appreciated. I can supply further configuration information as well.

Thanks in advance for any help.
