Hi!
I´m Gustavo Faza, and i´d like to know how to send mail from command line directly to a SMTP server, without using sendmail.

The e-mail SMTP gateway is a NT Server running Exchange Server 5.5, and i would like to configure some applications, when they finishes, to send me a message to my pager
(the paging provider accepts mail-to-pager).

I´m using AIX 4.3.2.

Thanks for all
Gustavo
Why don't you want to use sendmail? Sure it's had it's problems in the past but it's pretty safe now, especially if you configure it only to send and not to receive or relay. Are you OK with using another mailer if not sendmail?
 - Scott
Scott McCrory
scott@mccrory.com

Well, i was trying to get a simple program who let me do it, without using sendmail or any other mailer.
Until now, i never configured sendmail, but this will be a good chance.
What other products are going around to replace sendmail ?

Thanks
Gustavo

MacFaza,

It shouldn't be too hard to set up sendmail to use your NT box as a mail-forwarding host - certainly easier than buying/downloading some other thing and having to install and configure that.

Have a look in smit at the TCP etc options, I think setting the mail-forwarding-host is in there somewhere (it's been ages since I had to do it and you only have to do it once with a box)

Mike
michael.j.lacey@ntlworld.com
<a href= Cargill's Corporate Web Site
Hi MacFaza, I have the same problem.
I am able to send the email to the Exchange mailbox(NT Server), using the .forward file on the Unix Box, but for some reason the exchange mailbox can't forward the email to my cellphone(pager).
If I try to do that from any other mailbox on the network or from outside, the exchange mailbox can forward the email.
I think the problem is related with the header of the email or some configuration in the sendmail daemon on the Unix Box.
If you have some suggestions about it, please fell free to send me an email: wgarcia@roots.com.

Why simply don't you use the [tt]mail[/tt] command? It's simpler, much simpler.
