SMTP authentication through notification server

I am working with some software that can notify me of certain system events via email. This only works if I have a configured email program running. The only setup options in the notification software is SMTP server and Sender and Receiver email address. Is there any way to pass SMTP authentication using these entries? Hopefully this is clear.

You can ask the software vendor to add support for SMTP authentication.
