I have a problem right now with my authentication configuration. Right now we log the pop retrieval which then allows access to sending emails through sendmail. Our only problem right now is emails being sent to users on the local system skip the authentication. Therefore, we are receiving spam emails sent to local users from local users. (many times the To: and From: usernames are the same)

I am not sure what part of the sendmail configuration file would allow a local user to send to a local user without doing the normal pop before smtp authentication check.

Does anyone have any tips or on line information I could read about this issue?

Thanks!

you could try changing the 'DeliveryMode' to

O DeliveryMode=queue all mail

it might work for you. (however it might not)

Apparently this is a more broad problem than just in my system. From all my research and technical support help, my system appears to be running as it is supposed to. Which means that until a more secure mail transfer agent catches on, there is no way to stop individuals from sending an email to "me" from "me".
