Any one using Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange version 5.0?

I'm trying to connect remotely, but I keep getting this error:

"Server is not configured properly. Try verifying that the IWAM has been granted impersonation rights"

Symantec's web site say's you will have this problem if this software is installed on a Domain Controller, which it is, but they don't tell you how to resolve it.

I have checked the domain level security policy and it is set to allow this account to have impersonation rights after authentication!

Any idea.... anyone?

Try to run gpedit.msc and check whether the effective settings are the ones inherited from the domain policy you mentioned. Maybe it is overwritten by another GPO at the domain level.

You could also try to set up auditing for this user right assignment on the domain controller.

What happens if you connect to the server using terminal services and open the Symantec for Xchg console?

It opens fine on the server and through terminal services, but not remotely using the console on another computer.

The affective policy is showing that account. I'm funding other problems with this version (i.e. reports to not seem to generate, white list is ignored etc.)

I may go back to using the previous version.

Tony,

you might be right... I see that there is no "Hot topics" for SMSMSE 5 on the Symantec support site. And no updates yet. This might indicate that the product has been released too soon (remember SAV 10) and you are actually beta-testing :-(

I haven't seen a problem with it yet. I've deployed 4 or 5 servers with it, and haven't found a problem yet.

Too late... I've unistalled it and gone back to version 4.6, that works a treat.

Next time I'll remember to wait a few months and let someone else test a new product.

Are you on Windows 2003 SP1? Did you upgrade to SP1 or did you do a straight install with SP1 slipstreamed?

There is a SMS/IIS issue with upgrading to SP1 where permission issues come into play. I'm not sure why it's not affected in 4.6 but in 5.0...

I'm using Windows 2000.

It's Microsoft SBS, so SMSMSE is installed on the same server as the Domian controller and Exchange, but I've followed all of Symantecs sugestions regarding the IWAM account, but it's still not working.

Still keep getting the same authentication error.
