Hi guys,

My Boss just asked me to do a complete software inventory of the whole infrastructure and I DONT KNOW HOW. The last version I used was SMS 1.2(3 years ago) and we now have a SMS2.0 (By the way I just got this job last week). It is totally different. Its not my job but he thought I could do it coz of my exposure to v1.2. Could you guys give me a hand on how to do this in an easy way.

thanks

Software Inventory,

Likely you already have this SMS client agent turned on. You can verify this in the SMS client agents. Ensure this is checked. If not then you need to turn it on. However expect your network bandwidth to suddenly vanish as the SMS clients start to push up the inventory.

However, I'm also interpreting this question you asked as... your boss is expecting you to give him a report on software titles installed throughout your organization. If that is the case you will need to write a SQL query to get this job done.

Feel free to e-mail me and we can chat further on this subject.

Cheers,

Hi Jason,

Thanks. I did some query but it didn't even show some of the basic software(like Microsoft Office). Here is the query I did.

select distinct SMS_G_System_SoftwareProduct.CompanyName, SMS_G_System_SoftwareProduct.ProductName, SMS_G_System_SYSTEM.Name from SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_SoftwareProduct on SMS_G_System_SoftwareProduct.ResourceID = SMS_R_System.ResourceId inner join SMS_G_System_SYSTEM on SMS_G_System_SYSTEM.ResourceID = SMS_R_System.ResourceId order by SMS_G_System_SoftwareProduct.CompanyName, SMS_G_System_SoftwareProduct.ProductName

Is this correct or totally off the mark? The result I got was huge with a lot of same products on different machines. Thanks for helping.

What's your e-mail address?
