I have a testbed that was working fine. When I came in the next day, it says connection failed. It won'nt connect to the site database. I have rebuilt wbem, and have spent 3 days on the phone with MS. I don,nt want to re-install till I know what the problem is. We are looking at installing onto a site with 4000 clients. I have seen that others have had the same problem, but have seen NO FIXES, and MicroSoft has'nt been able to give me an answer. You can'nt even get into the tree to see the site.
I have SMS2.0, and SQL7.0 installed on the same machine with no service packs. Any help would be appreciated. I have stopped and re-started all services, re-built sms and sql as well.

Are you by any chance running on Compaq server equipment? I saw this same problem when we re-applied NT SP4 on one of our servers. The problem persisted until we re-applied the SSD to update the drivers from the service pack. This behavior was the exact manifestation I saw. I have even reproduced the same issue on another box.
Hope that helps,
Yes we are running Compaq Servers exclusively.
I would definitely reccommend that you try re-applying the SSD and rebooting. You may find this to fix your issues.

The Compaq SSD is the server software for your Compaq servers. It contains the most recent Compaq-specific drivers, etc. If you are not using this, you really should be. The NT service packs have some Compaq drivers in them, but they are not as current, or reliable, as the Compaq drivers. I believe you should be able to find the SSD on the Compaq CDs that came with your server (although it is probably old by now) or you can go to Compaq and download the most current ones.
Also, I would VERY STRONGLY suggest that you implement SMS SP1. We have a large installation that we started several months ago, and we had a lot of problems / glitches / issues that were resolved by SP1.
Good Luck!

We've had a similar problem, but we don't have Compaq servers. Everything we've seen seems to point to WBEM problems. We can't even get into the WBEM administrator... Not quite sure how this happenned. Any ideas? Our SMS install had been running for ~10 months without any major glitches.
