SMS SP2 - AD extension - is mandatory ???

sms2003sp2_ad_schema.ldf is in tools folder inside SMS 2003 Sp2.

I have status message saying that it is not possible to update dNSHostName attribute in AD.

I know this is due to fqdn can be used in SMS SP2.

I only wonder if AD schm update is only kind of "optional" prerequisite in SMS2K3 SP2. Why Site compo mgr keeps sending stat msgs and filling logs ? I do not intend to use fqdn in adress etc...???

It is not needed however the stat msges don't suprise me.

The good news is that schema extention doesnt really do anything other than add two new lines so the sms clients have another way to find mp's and dps

It also will allow site systems to do the same with each other mp info. This 2nd one is probably why the errors are showing up on the server as it is trying to find the fqdn to the other mps

point being, you should just run it as it is so easy and really is just going to add those two lines.
