We're debating on removing SMS for our corp infrastructure all together. Is it neccesary to remove all agents from the workstation prior to SMS server removal or is it possible to just disable the services on the workstation? Disabling the services is easiest for us because we're implementing XP at the desktop in the next three weeks. So all machine will be new and SMS agent free...

Thanks

Why not doing it the way MS recommends us to ?

Remove all boundary information from your site(s) and the client will de-install by themselves after the 23 hours cycle ;)

Cheers,
Chris

Actually, the SMS client will automatically de-install (mostly, not completely) after not being able to contact a CAP for 60 days.

If you're going to do a wipe and reload of the workstations in a few weeks anyway then your real concern is the lingering stuff on the domain controllers. In particular, the SMSLOGON share, and files in the NETLOGON share (smsls.bat, smsboot1.exe).

Also, if an XP upgrade is performed then SMS stuff will remain on the client (folders, files, registry entries, WMI classes, accounts).

What is the recomeded way of removing sms, i cannot find anything if use on microsofts website.
