Hello There,

I use SMS v2.0 to remote control users pc in a windows 2000 domain.

99% of the time this is ok but occasionally due to a pc getting a new DHCP address the SMS remote control option tries to contect to the pc's old IP address and therefore cant connect. SMS does not seem to have updated itself to gain the PC's new IP.

Over time this gets resolved but is there a way of remote controlling a pc and force SMS to use the new IP settings rather than the old one?

Any help will be much appreiated.

Cheers,

Del.

This problem can be solved by verifying your WINS/DNS environment is accurate.

This isn't really a problem with SMS. It is a problem with your DNS or WINS environment (depending on which one you are using.). When you remote control a client, the clients IP address is being resolved using WINS/DNS.

If the client gets a new IP address and your WINS/DNS servers are not updated yet, you may not resolve to the appropriate client. This situation usually occurs in larger environments where many WINS/DNS servers replicate.
