Hi,

I have been landed with the responsibility of the SMS 2003 server administration, the guru we had has left!

I am reading the manuals and trying to get up to speed as quickly as i can. My current problem is that not all PC's seem to be running the SMS advanced agent. I though the SMS server was doing an AD discovery and adding clients according to that, but I have found at least 10 pc's with no agents.

Is there a way to push the SMS client software to one or a range of PC's manually as they are identified as being without, and then see the results.

thanks for any help

Im a just learning too, but to install a client manually from the client PC (presuming you want the advanced client)

go to the share on the sms site server
\SMSClient\i386 and run ccmsetup.exe (make sure the site code is set to the correct one)

You can right click a collection and push the client to it, if they have a client it wont push it again.

Ive found on my site that sometimes the client is installed but the collections do not update. Try Remote Tools it might just work for you.

I agree with tbrennans. Whenever you perform that command, SMS uses an account specified in SMS to do the install. As long as that account has admin rights on the target machine and is not locked out, that method should work. To find out which account it is using, drill down in the SMS admin console to Site Hierarchy | <sitecode> - <site name> | Site Settings | Client Install Methods and open Client Push Installation. Click on the accounts tab. This will tell you which account or accounts it is using to try the install. Check these accounts and make sure they have rights and are not locked out. AD discovery will only add discovery records to SMS which will then allow you to perform the remote client install as specified by tbrennans. I know there is a log to check but I can't remember the name of it. Check the SMS admin guide supplied by SMS.
