I have concluded that no one is experts in SMS 2003 .
Becouse I asked a lot in this forum a lot of question but all said the same .
My question is :
How can I make a package of setup.exe file to install this file to clients henec sms can make a package of msi or sms files but I need exe files , all gays said to use sms Installer . I download it but can't make msi file using it. please tell me how is the best way to do it.

It's simple, just treat the as a manual package creation. Where you programs command line will point to the location of the setup.exe, or you could perform a DLE Download and execute.

Have sms copy the setup.exe and files to PC and launch via command line.

Good luck

you should use the SMSInstaller or third party package programs like WISE Installer...

Do you just want to copy this file to the machines...or launch and install of software starting with the execution of setup.exe?

*.exe files are fine for launching installations using SMS (you don't need to convert this to an MSI.)

If the setup.exe has switches to install without user interaction, you don't even need to use the SMSInstaller... for example, if there is a switch for hidden install programed into the setup.exe like (setup.exe /h) you are good to go without the SMSInstaller.

let us know exactly what you are tyring to do...even knowing the software you are trying to install will help..

I understand what you're asking, you need to create the package manually.

If the .EXE is the lone file, you can browse to the location of the file. If it has other files included for installation purposes, simply create a folder and point to that location.

Your command line should in the program properties should look something like this "Drive\Path\setup.exe /s"

Allow SMS to move these files out to your distribution point.

In SMS2003 you can also tell SMS to download this file and execute on the desktop once bits has dropped it into the local cahce folder.

I saw a few other threads you have out here and I think it's safe to recommend that you pickup some literature on SMS 20 and 2003.

Also take in some of the webcasts availible on the Microsoft website.

This should broaden your knowledge and allow you to remain professional when posting questions and answers

Hello All,
Thanks a lot for your replys :
but I want to tell you what I did :
I need to install MSN on all clients (msn.exe).
I made the follwing:
1- Package -> New -> Package
Name:MSN
Data Source
I checked 'This package contains source file '
then selected set ->Local drive on site server and then Brows (c:\Path to the folder).

2- Distribution Points
I selected the server

3- Program
Name : MSN
Command Line : I selected Browse and selected the msn.exe
and then I advirtised this but it is't installed on any client.
Although I could install any msi program to clients . so how can we solve it .
thanks again.

Hello again !
In my work I need to do the follwing please ?

clients will connect to the sms server using one user name and password when the client is connected . The sms server will scan to see which update he need ( depend on which update are already installed) and ask him to install the updat which is not installed on his computer ? I think it is a good idea to this .
thanks

Sounds like MBSA or some of the other patching solutions out there, is this working for you?

Or is this a question on how to implement this update feature from your SMS box.

I get the feeling your looking in the direction of SUS on an SMS box.

Yes...I agree for security updates, use SUS with SMS 2003. Here is a link for the download and some instructions:

There are many webcasts from microsoft showing how this works... seach Microsoft web site for MS webcast

Also, here is a video showing the install of SUS...
