I have some computer questions about SMS (systems management server)


i need to know this info for a Job interview and have till friday, and would like to be as educated about this as possible.




what i'm trying to find out is..

brief discription of SMS ..

what is repacking ? and why would you like it as an option?

Domains, how to add them ..

slient installs, why, how, and what's good about them..

all discriptions can be pretty breif, don't have to give exact steps.

SMS is the Microsoft tool prepared for IT departments that want to implement a managed client environment. In the extreme, normal users are not allowed to install applications on any client. All installations, security patches, configuration changes and more are distributed via the SMS Advertised Program tool. Users get notified when a new application is available and if required, may automatically initiate the installer that makes changes to the client computers (usually you give people 5 minutes to gracefully close current applications.) SMS is supposed to do it all - inventory clients, determine application profiles, uninstall/install packages, etc. All activity is via installer packages - these are created usually via third party tools - where the packager can track/change application installations to obtain the desired configuration.

repackaging :
The automated procedure for creating an installation package with SMS Installer is called the Repackage process.Used for creating installation exe's.
I would use this option if i wanted to create an unattended custom install of a programe.
