SMS client on XP machine

WE are having issues in our office with the SMS Client being installed on XP workstations. 2 workstations could be directly next to each other on the same subnet, same machine type basically identical and one machine will receive the client and the other will not.

Is there any troubleshooting advice or upgrades for XP workstations I should be aware of?
