SMS Client Install Fails

This issue just started out of the blue for no apparent reason, we think that someone tampered with the domain accounts but cannot confirm. Here is the issue:

While running smsman.exe using automatic discovery it finds the site and starts the install then fails with the standard MS error to contact your SMS administrator. In the Wnmanual.log on the client machine the error is cliex32.dll failed to load error 126. Ive read MS' fix and that doesnt work (same error) so we tried something different. Manually copied all the files from %system%\ms\sms to the client and then ran the smsman.exe again and the installation completes and installs all the components. All other functions of SMS are running normal, packages are still being delivered, network discovery, hardware/software discovery. It makes no sense why this would be happening except for an account being tampered with. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh for the record we are on SP4 and SP5 would be an option if necessary.

Have you tried creating a ccr for those that are not installing? This might tell you wether or not you have an account security issue. In the past I had problems with some computers not installing and after creating manual ccr's for those it would then discover and install fine. I did eventually figure out why they were not installing but at the time this got me going.

If its not copying down the appropriate files, check to make sure the Logon Point directory security is still intact. Also, make sure the client connection account isn't locked out or has been changed in some way.
