Hi all, hope you can help.

My SMS server decided it was going to go belly up, so a reformat and reinstall of W2k and SQL7 later, I reinstalled SMS 2.0 sp4 and set it up as before, same site name, etc.

Everything looks ok except on the client side. SMS recognises that there are clients out there, but the majority show no client or site assigned.

I have tried to remove the client, then reinstall it so that it would pick up the new site, but it does not help. The client is installed but none of the components are installed. The SMS Client Base Components show as unavailable, which I guess is the problem.

Any ideas how I can kickstart this off?

Thanks.

John.

First, have you checked to make sure your SMSClient_XXX Acounts are locked out?
Second, I had a similar problem and after a rebuild i had to add some additional Connection Accounts (but at that point it was too late (according to MS Support). If I had these accounts created before, recovery would have been much easier. Check MS KB Article 237759.

What I did was first build these new connection Accounts.
(build in domain first, then in SMS)
Then I executed SMSMan.exe from the login script to force every PC to check for new stuff!. Sincene then, and having 4 additional connection accounts established, recovery has been much less painful

Thanks Rob, that seems to have made a world of difference. The accounts were locked so I followed MS's instructions on adding a second client account. The entries are flooding in as we speak.

Thanks alot its a huge help.

John
