Hello Everyone,

I have a quick question regarding forest to forest communication using SMS 2003. My question is this. I have established the advanced client to be used with my SMS site design. 80 percent of these are within the ORG Forest. HOwever, the other 20 percent lay within their own forests. They include a DMZ, COM and OTHER. While I have gotten things to work correctly for all advanced clients in the ORG forest, I haven't in the other forests. I am aware that certain ports have to be enabled on the firewall and that Netbios needs to be enabled. So far I have not even been able to discover these resources laying in the other forests. An options or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I am anxious to see what others have done in this area.

Regards,
Matt

What about Network-Discovery ?
Did you add the IP-range(s) ?
Also you need trusts (or at least a one-way trust) between the domains.....

Hi Chris,

Thank you! However, I have enabled network discovery, specifying the IP subnets and placing them in the site boundaries of my site. I have not had any luck discovering devices in my other forests ( COM DMZ ) even after configuring this. I am running SMS 2003.

Recently I located an article regarding 'How to Use Systems Management Server Through a Firewall' at which I found some what usual but still the resources in the other forests are not being discovered.

I am not sure what the cause of the problem is or if the article is only applicable for SMS 2.0.

Any feedback on how to properly configure SMS 2003 for outside the firewall and in different forests would be greatly appreciated. I am sure others have been in similiar circumstances.

Your opinions are appreciated and welcomed.

Regards,
Matt
