We have a SMS 2 site and after installing the Citrix XP farm on win 2k SP2 found that the SMS client auto-install replaced c:\winnt\system32\MSVCRT.DLL. This caused the IMA service to fail post reboot and could only be restored using the recovery console.

May be of use to anyone suffering such mysterious failures.
