I've been told that if I make a Ghost image of an NT4 machine which has SMS packages on it, then any updates of the SMS packages will not be applied to the second Ghosted machine. This is because SMS keeps identifiers as to which machines it has downloaded to and the second PC, being a Ghost image, will therefore not be downloaded to.

Is this true?

TIA,

John Bradshaw

If you Ghost any machine that has the SMS client on it, you'll run into serious problems. Each time an SMS client is installed, a unique identifier is applied to that computer. When you image a computer, you copy this identifier. There cannot be duplicate IDs in the company, or SMS will not work, software distribution included.
