Hi,

I'm looking for a way to get a sms message on my cellphone when a ups is running on battery.

During office hours I get an email from the Apc network management card but outside the office hours I have no idea if there is a problem.

I've managed to get something working but I was wondering if there is a more simple way to do this.
What I've done so far is this:

* Ups is connected to lan using management card.
* On a test pc I installed PowerChute Network Shutdown and registered the pc on the ups as a PowerChute client.
* On the test pc I configured the PCNS program so the event 'running on battery' starts a batch file in case this event lasts xx minutes or longer.
* The batchfile runs the mapisend program to send an email to a specific address. The mailbody is read from a text file to create a custom body.
* On a server with a analog modem attached, I installed the freeware version of the program PopPager ( This program checks a pop3 mailbox and send a sms message to a predifined phonenumber. It can use the subject or the body of the email to put in the sms message.

This setup seems to works ok but as you can see, it's not the most efficient solution so I was wondering if there are other options to do this.

Another option might be doing something with SNMP but we have nothing running for that all and I'm not sure how difficult it is to set it up.

Thanks,
Richard
