SMS 3 error communicating with component MP_Control_Manager 1

running SMS 2003 on windows 2003 server AD structure, at a holding point as SMS_MP_CONTROL_MANAGER gives "Error Communicating with Component" under service manager - never polled.... any helpful hints would be appreciated!

Is IIS installed on the machine ?

yes -- I looked at that and even reinstalled to make sure (I've also run SMS restore and repair) -- luckily this is my test implementation lab, but can't get much in the way of testing done at this point.

which security mode are you using for sms?

sorry for the delay - got pulled off SMS and onto another project and then hit with holiday cheer ---- running advanced security mode

I would like to know if you ever figured this out, I too am running this in a test network and have run into the same problems. Any help you could give would greatly be appreciated.

the issue was solved, but unfortunately it was by scraping the lab and starting over with production version (originally trying beta)of SMS 2003 - I'm still researching an issue with client push but all SMS service components are now functioning properly.
