All,

We are preparing to change the SA password in our database and were wondering if there is a best practices method to accomplish this goal.

We plan on...

1) Changing the SA password in SQL Administrator, Site Properties

2) Performing a site reset

3) Change the SA password in SQL Server while step 2 is running.

Does this appear correct?

Thank you

Figured it out and it went very well. Here is what we actually did:

1) Changed SA password in SQL Server

2) Performed a site reset using new password (you perform a site reset by reinstalling SMS 2003 on the server, but choose the "modify or reset configuration" option).

3) After about 10 minutes, process was complete with new password.

Note that during the site reset, the "Stopping SMS Services option" might appear to hang for several minutes at little or no CPU utilization. This is normal.

No special config was required for secondary sites.
