Hi,

I have an SMS 2003 environment (Advanced Security- Windows 2003 Native Domain). I don't use WINS...

I am having trouble getting a few Windows 2000 SP4 servers installed as SMS 2003 Advanced Clients. All of my other clients are part of my Windows 2003 domain. However, these few clients are not part of the domain...they are in a Workgroup for security reasons.

I was wondering if the Advanced client can be installed on systems outside of Active Directory? I think they can but I am having trouble.

The clients are actually installed on the workgroup servers, but they can not find the SITE. I think this is because they are having difficulty "talking" to the MP.

The clients do have connectivity to the DNS environment that the Windows 2003 domain uses.

-any help would be appreciated....

I resolved this issue:

I found that if you have clients that are not part of your Active Directory environment (i.e. clients in a workgroup) that the SLP must be published to WINS.

The reason is that the SMS Advanced Client can not search Active Directory to find an SLP if they are NOT part of the domain.

The only other way to find an SLP (as far as I know) is to use WINS.

Once I created the SLP record in WINS, I was able to install and manage my clients in the "workgroup"s.

-hope this helps...
