Have a problem with a few users, where the SMS 2 Remote Control Service will not start. I am conducting a pilot group of approximately 40 PCs where 3 pose the same symptoms where it appears that the Remote Control Service installs successfully according to the log files anyway. When you try to start the service manually you receive a 2140 "Windows 2000 Internal Error," which seems to be pretty generic. I have tried deinstalling and reinstalling the client software but to no avail. All cliets were installed in the same way by manually running SMSMAN. Any help in this would be much appreciated. They are all Windows 2000 clients, but I also have some Windows 2000 clients functioning correctly.

I am stumped at the moment, and any tips would be helpful

Thanks
Claire.

I have installed Service Pack 5 on the SMS site server and then de-installed and re-installed the client.

I did notice however that a log file has been placed in the RemCtrl fodler called wuser32.log. It contains the error "Unable to initialize the Network. Required Protocols may not be installed" The network seems to be functioning correctly. The PC is on DHCP and receives the Network TCP/IP configuration from the server, the PC also has NetBEUI installed, the machines are created from a standard image so it should not be any different from any other Win2K PC. I have seen some mentions on the net to check the LANA number configuration, but as yet have not found a way to do this in Win2K.
